Di Giorgio Bel Som 36 1975 (7 String)

The 7 string guitar (violão de sete cordas) is popular with Choro musicians in Brazil. The counterpoint accompaniment style (baixaria) was developed throughout the 20th century, mastered by the likes of Dino Sete Cordas & Raphael Rabello. Since the turn of the century, guitarists such as Yamandu Costa have continued to build the 7 string repertoire.

For a taste of the 7 string sound by Yamandu, try the 2011 album Yamandu Costa e Rogério Caetano.

The Di Giorgio factory does not appear to have produced many 7 String models during the 1970s. Any examples are Bel Som 36’s with extended headstocks.

This example is from 1975.
